After much hesitation to compete with the success of the Surface Tablet in the sub $1000 device market, Microsoft is finally launching a Surface Laptop to compete with the MacBook Air for the mid-range, thin-and-light laptop market. The laptop will run the new Windows 10 S operating system.
The Verge is reporting that the laptop will have a 13.5″ touch display. “This is the thinnest LCD touch model ever created and put into a laptop,” according to Microsoft’s devices chief Panos Panay.
The laptop should be plenty competitive at the sub $1000 dollar price point that has been dominated by the MacBook Air. Microsoft claims the battery life will last for 14.5 hours by using the latest in Intel processor technology–“more battery life than any MacBook Air on the market today” says Panay.
Ready to Pre-Order?
The device certainly looks elegant. And starting at $999 for pre-orders, it seems to be worth every penny. The new Surface Laptops are expected to ship beginning June 15.
