Microsoft Announces Surface Laptop

temp-post-image

After much hesitation to compete with the success of the Surface Tablet in the sub $1000 device market, Microsoft is finally launching a Surface Laptop to compete with the MacBook Air for the mid-range, thin-and-light laptop market. The laptop will run the new Windows 10 S operating system.

The Verge is reporting that the laptop will have a 13.5" touch display. "This is the thinnest LCD touch model ever created and put into a laptop," according to Microsoft's devices chief Panos Panay.

The laptop should be plenty competitive at the sub $1000 dollar price point that has been dominated by the MacBook Air. Microsoft claims the battery life will last for 14.5 hours by using the latest in Intel processor technology--"more battery life than any MacBook Air on the market today" says Panay.

Ready to Pre-Order?

The device certainly looks elegant. And starting at $999 for pre-orders, it seems to be worth every penny. The new Surface Laptops are expected to ship beginning June 15.
